Entry 6: Local Co-op Games Genre Market Analysis, Target Audience, Key Industry Players and Competitor (24 June 2018)

Things that this entry will be analyzing on will be co-op games genre popularity and its target audience. Target Audiences and Co-Op Games Market Analysis MO-3 & KEV 7 is an arcade game which hardcore PC or console players will not fancy getting to that specific location to play this game unless they are willingly to play this game and that will occur if marketing of this game is sufficiently effective to create the sense of hype. This game is likely to be targeting the players who are 25 years old or older. The reason behind it is that the players who in that age would most likely to engage local cooperative games instead of online competitive games. With that information, I take this game as a market opportunity to gain more players to play this game. According to Kaleb Embaugh's findings on "Local Co-Op is The Most Consistently Appealing Mode of Social Gaming Across Gender and Age", co-op games are tend to attract friends whether it's co-located ...

Entry 5: Discussion with The Specialist Tutors (9 June 2018)

On 6th June 2018, a specialist tutor discussion on this idea by Yi Wei (specialist in game design) and these are the notes I've taken down form the discussions :- Yi Wei :- -Simplified the puzzle because the core gameplays are from the controllers. -Storytelling might need to simplified because it's an arcade game, not a commercial game. -FEEDBACK DESIGN IS THE REAL CHALLENGE IN THIS IDEA -Start the game with a very simple objective, something like a tutorial but it's not. -Gives as many hints as possible. -This arcade game idea can be categories as "experimental arcade"since it requires specific hardware. -The player journey goes like this -  Controls > Collaboration > Awe by Collaboration. On 8th June 2018, two specialist tutors discussion on this idea by Lin Yew (specialist on hardware and presentation of the game design) and Din Tan (specialist in user interface and user experience) and these are the notes I've taken down f...

Entry 4: Updated Version of the Chosen Idea (9 June 2018)

Chosen Idea: Arcade Puzzle Co-op Game with Character-based Controls [MO-3 and KEV-7 Great Escape] Concept: An arcade game with controllers that reflect the characters in game. MO-3 is a Federal Of Steel's labor robot, thus making MO-3 a rugged, rusted, rigid-looking robot with industrialized design. MO-3's controller will be joystick that operates like a tank. Meanwhile, KEV-7 is an Institute of Justice's caretaker robot who takes care of the people in their facility. KEV-7 have a telekinesis power that helps the people in the facility to grab and interact stuff. KEV-7 design is minimalistic, futuristic, clean and smooth. Thus, KEV-7's controller would operate like what you'll imagine in the future, in-air gestures or interaction without actual physical contacts. Story:  Some time on Earth, a war is ongoing between Chaos and Harmony. MO-3 is a labor robot that carry stuff on its back in the no man's land for the Federal of Steel while on the oth...

Entry 3: The Chosen Idea - KEV-4 and Dom’s Whimsically Great Escape, a puzzle arcade co-op game with character-based controllers inc. Leap Motion and Joysticks (9 June 2018)

I've chosen  KEV-4 and Dom’s Whimsically Great Escape, a puzzle arcade co-op game with character-based controllers inc. Leap Motion and Joysticks, because I see potential in it as much as how portfolio worthy it'll be. I'll explain why so: -Idea requires 3D modelling and animation. -Posses a very interesting experience with the controllers and co-op experience. -Idea needs a very strong UI and  feedback to have a better UX. -Idea uses Leap Motion and custom-made controller. -Feasibility wise, I'm confident that I can build this game. I think. -THIS IDEA IS REALLY RISKY IN THE MARKET BUT IT'LL BE QUITE IMPRESSIVE. My goal for choosing this idea is to have a better chance of getting an internship into the game industry instead of design/content creating industries. The reasons of not choosing the 2.5D side-scroller or the Vitamin D Tracker are :- -Cinematic 2.5D side-scroller:-   -It's a plan B, too safe and generic.   -Only visuals is new. Not the ...
